A charming municipality located in Pontevedra province, Sanxenxo has established itself as one of the most popular tourist beach destinations in Galicia. With its stunning coastal landscapes, fine sandy beaches and crystal clear waters, Sanxenxo attracts visitors from all over the world in search of unforgettable moments in the sunshine. Beach tourism in Sanxenxo is a unique experience combining the natural beauty of the surroundings with a wide range of services and activities for the enjoyment of travellers. Sanxenxo’s beaches are known for their high quality, as well as their extensive sandy areas, which invite you to relax, sunbathe and enjoy the sea. In this post, we tell you which are our favourites.

Silgar Beach

Silgar beach is one of Sanxenxo’s best known beaches, because it is located in the heart of the town. Its privileged location makes it one of the busiest in the area.

This beach impresses with its scenic beauty, stretching along a wide strip of golden sand and crystal clear waters, offering extraordinary scenery. Its calm and shallow waters make it a perfect place to enjoy a refreshing swim or water activities such as paddle surfing and windsurfing. Moreover, being in the centre, it offers a wide range of services.

Its lively promenade featuring numerous shops, bars and ice cream parlours means that Silgar beach becomes a social meeting point, as well as being the setting for events and festivities during the summer season. From here, you can enjoy panoramic views of the bay and harbour, while relaxing under the warm Galician sun.

Whether you are looking for a quiet day on the beach or want to immerse yourself in a more lively coastal dynamic, Silgar Beach is the ideal place to enjoy beach tourism in Sanxenxo.

Areas Beach

Areas beach is another of Sanxenxo’s treasures that deserves to be explored. Located in an impressive natural setting, this beach offers scenic beauty and a quiet atmosphere.

Surrounded by dunes and pine forests, Areas beach offers an idyllic landscape where visitors can enjoy long walks by the sea and relax in the calm of the natural surroundings. Its crystal clear waters and soft golden sand make it a perfect place for a refreshing swim or to go snorkelling and diving to discover local marine life. It is also a good place to surf, being a very popular beach among surfers.

In addition to its natural beauty, Areas beach offers a variety of services to meet the needs of visitors. Nearby, you will find restaurants and bars where you can enjoy delicious dishes of fresh seafood and sample regional specialities.

If you are looking for a quiet getaway and to enjoy nature in all its splendour, Areas beach is the perfect destination.

Montalvo Beach

Montalvo beach is an authentic hidden paradise in the heart of Sanxenxo. This beach stands out for its natural beauty and quiet atmosphere, making it a perfect place for those looking to relax and enjoy the calm of the Galician coast.

Located in a setting with an abundance of vegetation and hills on the horizon, Montalvo beach offers a peaceful atmosphere away from the hustle and bustle. Its soft white sands, combined with the crystal clear waters of the ocean, make it an ideal place to sunbathe, enjoy a picnic on the beach, or watch the sun set – indeed, it is one of the most spectacular places from which to enjoy watching the sun disappear over the island of Ons.

In addition to being a quiet retreat, Montalvo beach offers a variety of water activities for the more adventurous among you. You can rent equipment so you can enjoy sports such as surfing, paddle surfing or kayaking, and head out to explore the waters and surrounding area.

La Lanzada Beach

Known for its impressive size and panoramic views, La Lanzada Beach has become an iconic destination for locals and visitors alike.

With its endless kilometres of white sand and crystal clear waters, La Lanzada beach is ideal for long walks by the sea, games on the beach or simply to relax and enjoy the sun. This beach’s natural beauty and picturesque surroundings make it the perfect place to admire Galicia’s coastal landscape and feel the sea breeze.

But La Lanzada beach not only stands out for its beauty; it boasts historical and cultural importance. Near to the beach we can find military and Roman archaeological remains. Next to them, the chapel of Our Lady of La Lanzada, which is a place of devotion and pilgrimage.

In addition to enjoying its surroundings and history, La Lanzada beach offers a wide range of sports activities. From surfing and kitesurfing to beach volleyball and yoga, there’s something to suit every taste and skill level.

Paxariñas Beach

With its privileged location and natural beauty, Paxariñas beach has become a refuge for those seeking peace and quiet and breath-taking scenery.

Located in a picturesque setting, this beach is known for its crystal clear waters and rocky surroundings. Surrounded by cliffs and lush vegetation, this beach offers a unique and charming atmosphere that will transport you to a coastal paradise.

Paxariñas beach is ideal for those looking to enjoy nature in its purest state. Its clear waters invite you to swim and snorkel to discover the rich marine life that hides beneath the surface. For those who like to relax on the sand, there are hammocks and parasols for rent. In addition, water sports lovers can rent paddle surfing and kayaking equipment to explore the surroundings and enjoy an exciting marine adventure.

If you are looking for a haven of peace and natural beauty, Paxariñas beach offers you an idyllic place to relax and disconnect from the outside world.

These five beaches are undoubtedly some of Sanxenxo’s most beautiful. Nevertheless, we would add other beaches to the list that – although they are not in the immediate vicinity of the town – can easily be reached by boat with Naviera Mar de Ons. These are the beaches of the Cíes Islands and the Isle of Ons. In summer, we sail daily from Sanxenxo port to these archipelagos. If you decide to visit them, you will be rewarded with some incredible beaches and are sure to enjoy the Rías Baixas even more, if that’s even possible.

If you travel to Galicia, don’t miss the opportunity to visit these beaches. Beach tourism in Sanxenxo is a very good option. You will have a unique summer experience. We look forward to seeing you!
