AUTHORIZATION
In order to access the National Park of the Atlantic Islands you need to have an authorization. Therefore, you should plan your visit thoroughly and carry out a series of very simple bureaucratic steps beforehand to guarantee your access.
For this reason, in order to visit this natural space, it is necessary to have an authorization from the Xunta de Galicia for both the Cíes Islands and the Ons Island.
Our islands are a paradisiacal place, with its native flora and fauna, which makes them a very attractive destination for visitors who are increasingly interested in environments where they can enjoy nature and relax. This new rule ensures that the limit of 1,800 authorised visitors per day to the Cíes Islands and 1,300 authorised visitors to Ons Island is observed, which helps to keep a balanced number of visitors so as to protect the ecosystem.
The only way to go to the Cíes Islands is by boat and you can use the regular ferry service at Easter, weekends in June, and every day from 15 May to 15 September. The rest of the year, excursions and guided visits are run and there are also trips available for individuals who want to explore these protected islands with our guides. If you’re travelling outside of the regular service period it’s important to check our website for any available journeys outside of the summer months.
Every user can book a maximum of 10 places per request. The details of each visitor to the island must be provided, so you will need to enter the names, surnames, ID document numbers, sex, and date of birth of each passenger. This permit is unique and non-transferable, as it has a QR code, permit number, date, and the name and surnames of the visitor. Once you have obtained the permit code from the Regional Government (this is called the pre-booking code as it is a provisional code that is only valid for two hours), you can use it to buy your boat ticket on our website for the day you want to visit the Cíes Islands.
After purchasing your boarding ticket from Mar de Ons, you will receive an email that contains both confirmation of the ticket purchase and all the details of your trip and the definitive permit that allows you to land on the Cíes Islands on the day you have chosen.
Make sure to save the permit till the day of your journey, as you will have to show it before you board or when you reach the island. Likewise, we recommend you arrive at our ticket offices 30 minutes before the boat sails to print your ferry ticket. Please remember you need to print your tickets in our ticket offices in order to travel.
We have sailings to the Cíes Islands from the main ports of Vigo, Cangas, Baiona, Sanxenxo and Portonovo. You can check timetables and available ports on our website. The journey takes an hour from Cangas, if the boat stops in Vigo, around 40 minutes from Vigo, 35 minutes from Baiona and around one hour from Sanxenxo and Portonovo.
The Cíes Islands are one of the most visited places in Galicia, specifically the second most-visited after the Cathedral of Santiago. That’s why it’s highly recommended to book your ticket in advance. You can do it 90 days before the start of your trip and you can cancel your booking for free up to 15 days before the start of your journey.
